A government minister has attempted to reassure humanists concerned about the appointment of the MP for Sandbach as a special envoy on freedom of religion or belief.
Humanists UK were "alarmed" by the appointment when it was announced in December due to her beliefs and voting record on issues like gay marriage and abortion as well as an alleged attempt to block humanism being taught in schools.

Police are urging residents to continue to stick the rules after 685 fines were issued in the first month of lockdown.
Cheshire Police says it follows the approach of engage, explain and encourage but when officers are met with blatant and/or repeat breaches of the regulations, they will enforce immediately.
Residents across Cheshire could soon benefit from new funding to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
That's after Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East, and Warrington councils agreed to submit a £6.3 million bid — to be split equally — to the government's 'green homes fund'.

Staff at a Sandbach care home have provided breakfast for over 200 key workers to thank their "fellow pandemic heroes".
The team from Elworth Grange, on Booth Lane, had the idea of delivering the breakfasts after treating the Ashfields Primary Care Centre team to bacon sandwiches when they went in to administer the Covid-19 vaccines to residents.

Over 90 per cent of Cheshire and Merseyside's residents aged 80 and above have had their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
New data released by NHS England shows that, to February 7, 92 per cent of that group had their opening jab, extending to 89 per cent of all over-70s.

In his daily video update, Cllr Sam Corcoran praised the efforts of the local NHS and volunteers for vaccinating over 10,000 people.

A vote of no confidence in the Mayor of Cheshire East is set to be held next week, after appearing in the viral Handforth Parish Council video clip.
Mayor Barry Burkhill, who represents Handforth as an Independent, also sits on the parish council and can be seen — in the longer version of the video — asking 'where the chairman [Cllr Brian Tolver] has gone' after being placed in the Zoom's waiting room by Jackie Weaver.

Cllr David Jack used the public speaking section of last Thursday's (4 February) finance, policy and governance committee meeting to question the basis of the action taken.
