Cheshire East Council's Walking and Cycling Champion, Cllr Suzie Akers Smith

The Highway Code changes are about common courtesy and protecting more vulnerable road users, Cheshire East Council's walking and cycling champion has said.

Cllr Suzie Akers Smith (Ind) has welcomed the changes which came into force at the end of last month and said the new rules are there to protect everyone because, at some time, everyone is a pedestrian.

Cheshire East has approved plans for an additional house on the Dingle Farm site at Sandbach which will secure the restoration of the Grade II listed farmhouse.

The southern planning committee had deferred the application in January because it wanted assurances that Dingle Lane would have public right of way status before making a decision on the application to repair the listed farmhouse, convert the barn to a dwelling and construct a new house on the site.

Cheshire East approved British Salt's application for a 18,375sqm warehouse off Faulkner Drive but the scheme will result in the loss of biodiversity and a £241,147 payment has been secured to deliver habitat creation at an off-site location.
