Cheshire East Council is calling on people to 'show the air you care' – and do their bit to mark Clean Air Day.

Clean Air Day, on October 8, will see schools, workplaces and communities across the borough and UK raise awareness of air pollution and inspire people to take simple steps to tackle air pollution – helping protect the environment and health.

It's clear that concern over the re-emergence of coronavirus across the UK has accelerated in the past week.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson took to the nation's televisions to outline new national restrictions, such as the 10pm-5am night time economy curfew, and also pleaded with Britons to follow the existing guidance to slow the spread of the disease.

Two men have been arrested and class A drugs recovered in Sandbach as part of a county-wide policing operation.

In total officers arrested 14 men and five women on suspicion of drug offences and executed a number of warrants which resulted in heroin and cocaine being seized.

Districts of Sandbach have been assigned three new beat officers as part of a community policing initiative.

Aimed at making police more accessible to the public, the scheme developed by Cheshire's Police and Crime Commissioner David Keane comes with a £200,000 investment to deliver local projects which tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

It will be a "huge ask" to police the new coronavirus restrictions, says Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner.

David Keane made the remarks to Cheshire East's police and crime panel last week, telling the meeting challenges arose due to the fact the spring lockdown saw crime levels dropped hugely, but they have since risen to almost pre-covid levels.

Residents at a recently opened care home near Sandbach have been kept entertained over the summer with an array of local performers putting on a show.

Staff at Elworth Grange Care Home hope that the performances will not only keep residents happy but also ensure they remain connected to the community during very uncertain times.

Cllr Mick Warren, CEC cabinet member for communities, said: "Everyone has a role to play in having a positive impact on air quality in Cheshire East, and we want to inspire our staff, partners and local residents to take simple actions to help reduce air pollution and limit its impact on their health and that of others.

The Cheshire East Council leader has called on the government to allow local authorities to impose the kinds of restrictions announced today, instead of a "blanket imposition".

Cllr Sam Corcoran also repeated his call for the track and trace system to be localised following issues with the current centralised model.

Motorists using a mobile phone to pay for parking at council car parks in Cheshire East will see a reduction in their charges, thanks to a contract negotiated by the council's parking services team.

From Thursday 1 October, the RingGo app will be replaced by PayByPhone as the new method of payment by phone. Residents and visitors parking in Cheshire East Council's car parks will benefit from a reduction from 20p to 7p per transaction, while it will also now be free for motorists to request confirmation of their booking and notification of when their parking period is due to expire.
