Every Thursday, we ask Cheshire business people our 10 questions, shining a light on local businesses and the people that make Cheshire a great place to work.

This week, we asked Nicky Armstrong of Sandbach-based Your business VA. Nicky is a qualified online business manager and her team provides back-office tech and admin support for a wide variety of business needs.

The best bit of my job is…

Not only seeing clients' online businesses streamline and scale but also witnessing the amazing benefits this gives our clients! With our support as their online business manager and/or Virtual Assistant, our clients can stop worrying about the management and day-to-day in their business and get back to doing more of what they love!

And the hardest bit about my job is…

Being your own boss, having your own business and working from home can get lonely. I'm now making an effort to get out more - from networking, netwalking (I love this more relaxed way of networking and being outside!) and having co-working days with one of my business buddies – it all helps!

The best bit of advice you've ever been given?

Always trust your gut! I've gone against it a couple of times and regretted it.

If you were Prime Minister for the day, what is the first thing you'd do?

Ask for an extension – I don't think one day would be enough!

What is your motivation?

Feeling the need to give back and make a difference in our crazy world. That's why I not only volunteer at a local horse rescue but also love supporting our heart-led coaching clients who are passionate about transforming their clients' lives.

What was your first job?

I love animals, so my first job as a young teenager was as a Kennel Assistant during the 6-week holidays. It felt very grown up getting the bus and looking after the cats and dogs…but I can very vividly still remember the smell before we cleaned the kennels!

Favourite place in Cheshire?

I'm still a relative newbie as my husband and I have only lived here for 4 years. We're still finding our feet, but I love living in Wheelock. I love being so close to the canal, closing my laptop and heading there for a walk after a busy day to clear my head.

What is your morning routine?

I'll map out my day in my planner (even though I time block in my calendar beforehand, I love ticking off a list!) before cooking my breakfast (usually involving eggs!). It sets me up for the day and stops me from snacking.

What's something an outsider wouldn't know about your industry?

Some people have never heard of either an online business manager (such as myself) or a virtual assistant (such as our Associate VAs who work with me). Think of it as your business manager and your admin support. I manage projects, launches and my client's teams to ensure goals are met and our VA's love implementing tech and getting day-to-day tasks done.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Organised, supportive and heart-led.
