A Sandbach Co-op store manager has officially retired and handed over a bench near his store to the local community.
Nick James officially handed over the bench in Lawton Way to Sandbach Mayor, Councillor Laura Crane.
The much-loved manager of the Co-op in Lawton Way has retired after around 30 years with the major retailer.
The bench has been funded through the Co-op engagement team and Nick is delighted to have it in place.
He said: "The local community can now enjoy this bench. I'm sad to retire but I'm looking forward to my retirement."
The bench has a plaque on it saying: "A little something from the Co-op – it's what we do".
Sandbach Nub News told here how Nick had been described as an "unsung hero" helping the local community, especially Elworth Hall School near the store.
He is now looking forward to spending more time in his motorhome and has a three week trip planned to enjoy his new life.
Cllr Laura Crane said she was delighted to have the bench for people to sit and chat.
"Loneliness is the biggest blight on our society and anything which helps people to connect and talk to each other is a great bonus."
A crowd gathered to see the bench handover at the weekend, including Sandbach Co-op member pioneer, Arnie Laing.
He said: "The bench will help improve everyday life for the local community. It's a great asset to the local area."
