Work has started on building a state-of-the-art sensory garden at a Sandbach primary school which is supported by the Co-op Local Community Fund.

Elworth Hall School Association (EHSA) received £5,163.12 from the Co-op Local Community Fund.

And work prepping the area has taken place to allow the school in Lawton Way to build a sensory garden - complete with musical instruments and special plants.

EHSA is working with Care4CE, a team of experienced mental health support workers who work across Cheshire East in partnership with other community-based organisations, on building the garden.

Volunteers from Care4CE, who have joined forces with the Friends of Wheelock Playing Fields, for advice on the project, worked on the space during the May half-term holiday.

And their hard work prepping the area has been praised by EHSA who are now one step closer to getting the project completed.

Hannah Parry, chair of EHSA said: " Phil, Mike and the team have made a great start on preparing the ground for the sensory garden.

"We'll do the bulk of the work in the summer holidays now but the area is clear of all the old materials from the play area it used to host.

"We're really looking forward to seeing it take shape and are so pleased to be working with Care4CE for the project.

"The work Care4CE is doing in offering such a great initiative and opportunities for those who may have mental health difficulties is wonderful.

"Our sensory garden is all about reconnecting our pupils and staff with nature so we're big supporters of what Phil is achieving with Care4CE.

"Being outdoors, we hope the garden will offer a place where pupils can come if they're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or needing a quiet place to reflect."

Hannah added: "Phil and the team, as well as Mike from Friends of Wheelock Playing Fields, have been such a great help and a valued source of advice with this project.

"We can't wait to continue working together over the summer and develop a great garden area for Elworth Hall Primary School."

Sandbach Nub News told here how the garden will be 'all things to all people', offering different things to different children.
