An independent Sandbach town councillor who breached the Cheshire East Code of Conduct has resigned from the council.
Sandbach Town Council confirmed to Nub News today (Monday) that Councillor David Jack, who represented the Town Ward, had formally resigned.
A spokesman said his letter of resignation was received on Friday and accepted and the vacant post will now be advertised for a new councillor.
Sandbach Nub News told on Friday here. how Cllr Jack had had his council email suspended and been removed from all committees and sub-committees following a Cheshire East hearing sub-committee.
The Town Council unanimously agreed at its last full council meeting earlier in January that the action should be taken following the findings
of a Cheshire East hearing sub-committee at the end of last year. That hearing heard Cllr Jack had called fellow members 'gutter rats' and 'filthy scum' in an email. He also described another councillor as a p***head on Facebook and made derogatory comments about a member of the public. The hearing sub-committee, made up of three Cheshire East councillors, determined Cllr David Jack had breached the code regarding disclosure of information given in confidence, by posting publicly about a complaint against him. Sandbach Nub News has twice approached Cllr Jack for a comment about this resignation from the town council but he has declined. A long post on his Facebook page stated his reasons for resigning. It includes the following comments during a long post which states his unhappiness at how the town council is run:
"When I was elected in 2019 I made a promise that I would not sit silently on council and allow injustices and half-truths to be the way of the council chamber.
"During that first year of 2019, as Chair of Finance and Governance, I strove for openness and transparency.
"I achieved an awful lot - brought in a zero percent precept, brought new tighter financial controls and accountability to play and increased community project funding.
"I was instrumental in the three year plan to bring decent Christmas lights to the town after years of woeful neglect.
"I drove an agenda of change and engagement and brought forward many projects for the benefit of the town."
Sandbach Town Council has not made any comment about Cllr Jack's resignation.
