Jackie Weaver has branded Cllr David Jack a "disgrace" following his outburst at yesterday's Sandbach Town Council meeting.

Ms Weaver, 62, who infamously booted the chair of Handforth Parish Council from a Zoom meeting that went viral, said that incidents like this outshine the "fabulous" work of town council's.

She told Sandbach Nub News: "It just goes back to the stuff I as Jackie Weaver have been banging on about for the last three months which is so many of our town and parish councillors across the country do absolutely fabulous, unpaid work for the benefit of their community and most of it goes completely unnoticed by anybody out in the community.

"Then you have people who behave like Aled Brewerton and unfortunately Cllr Jack who frankly are a disgrace to the title of councillor.

"His language was inappropriate. Nobody should swear like that in a council meeting no matter how frustrated you are and secondly, the way he spoke over the female councillor was completely unacceptable."

Ms Weaver is the head of the Cheshire Association of Local Councils (ChALC), which has been assisting Sandbach Town Council on issues relating to Cllr Jack.

Asked how she would have handled the meeting, Ms Weaver sympathised with the "pressure" felt by the town council clerk and said it's important to "brush up" on Zoom controls as Cllr Jack could have been booted sooner.

She added: "I think that when Cllr Corcoran had to hand the relevant standing orders, I wish I'd had it with me that night."

This is a reference to the viral Handforth meeting in which a councillor shouted to Ms Weaver: "Read the standing orders. Read them and understand them."

On Cllr Jack's behaviour toward Cllr Kathryn Flavell during the meeting, Ms Weaver believes there are elements of misogyny behind it.

"I think that there are people who have no respect for people who have a different view than they do and of course women are now in the firing line because we are in local government. Historically we wouldn't have been there to be abused," she said.

Ms Weaver has called on the government to give local authorities more power to deal with unruly councillors who commit "appalling behaviour".

She advised Cllr Jack: "If he really wants to move forward with things that he feels passionately about, he has to learn how to engage with other people in that way."

The overnight fame brought to Ms Weaver by the Handforth meeting has allowed her to set up her own podcast series called 'Jackie Weaver has the Authority'.

She said: "I can't believe that people like Anton Du Beke, Tom Allen and Lorraine Kelly have signed up to be interviewed by me. I just feel so blessed that they would do that."
