50-year-old man handed two-year driving ban after collision in Sandbach

A 50-year-old Haslington man has been handed a two-year and two months motoring ban after drink driving - causing a collision in Sandbach this year. 

John O'Flaherty, from Haslington, was handed the sentence at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Friday (September 30).

The foster carer was caught drink driving on Deans Lane in Sandbach on 12 March this year.

Flaherty collided his vehicle with a Ford Mondeo and WV Transporter van and then continued to drive without stopping.

The 50-year old was seen driving on Crewe Road, Winterley with damage to the front offside of his vehicle.

He was then seen stumbling and falling when leaving his vehicle.

Cheshire Constabulary soon arrived at an address on Frank Keating Close, Haslington.

O'Flaherty was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. He blew over the legal limit in custody.

A spokesperson said: "At around 3.55pm on 12 March 2022, a white Mercedes E-Class was driving along Deans Lane, Sandbach when it collided with a Ford Mondeo and a WV Transporter Van.

"The vehicle did not stop and continued. The vehicle was spotted on Crewe Road, Winterley with damage to the front offside of the vehicle.

"The driver left the vehicle and was seen to stumble and fall.

"Officers were called to an address on Frank Keating Close and performed a breath test which found the driver to be over the limit.

"He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and was further tested in custody where he blew 104 micrograms of alcohol in a 100 ml of breath.

Crewe Magistrates' Court ordered O'Flaherty to be fitted with a tag for a month (Ryan Parker).

"On 13 March 2022, John O'Flaherty, 50, was charged with drink driving and was bailed to appear in court at a later date. (September 30)."
