NatWest has announced it is closing its Sandbach branch.

The bank says it will be closing the Hightown branch on February 8th after a reduction in counter customers.

NatWest say there were 51 per cent fewer counter transactions in January this year compared with with January 2019.

In 2021, the bank says 72 per cent of personal customers using the Sandbach branch also chose to use on-line banking.

They also say that the branch was only used by 157 business customers on a regular basis last year.

A spokesperson said: "With the ease of mobile and online banking fewer people are coming into the bank.

"This means we've had to make some tough choices about which can stay open. So, we want to make sure that we keep the branches people are using most. "

They added: "The way people bank with us has changed dramatically in recent years, with an increased demand for mobile and online services as customers benefit from a faster and easier way to bank.

"Closing a branch is a decision we take very seriously. We know it can affect people who are less confident with the alternatives we offer, and we'll always work hard to guide you through the changes and find the best way to serve you from now on."

The Sandbach branch is one of 43 branches closing and Nat West says it will do all it can to keep customers informed. The closet branch now for Sandbach customers is Crewe.
