A father and son from Smallwood near Sandbach have had their locks cut off to donate hair to the the Little Princess Trust.

Robert and Arthur Boote from Martin's Moss haven't had their hair cut for four-and-a-half-years after deciding to grow it to help others through the charity here .

The Little Princess Trust provides free hair wigs to children and young people, up to 24 years, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions

Little Arthur, aged four, a pupil at Smallwood Church of England Primary School, hasn't had his hair cut since he was born during lockdown.

His dad, Robert, to helps runs Sandbach Commerical Dismantlers, used to have short hair until he decided he wanted to grow it as long as he could.

"People kept saying they would donate money to charity if I grew it a certain length. It just kept growing," said Robert who went with his son to Le Pompadour Barber Club in Queen's Drive to have their hair cut.

"I'd heard of the Little Princess Trust and we decided to start fundraising for that. The money we've raised, around £1,425, will pay for two wigs to be made.

"It was quite hard having long hair in the industry I work in. I've had a pony tail for years and it's go oil and all sorts in. It'll be a lot easier now to keep it clean while I'm at work," joked Robert.

Robert's wife Sarah said she was delighted with the smart new look for his husband and son and also delighted with the boost it will now give to young cancer suffers.

"It's just something we decided to do," said Sarah. "I'll be sending the section hair off by recorded delivery to the Little Princess Trust.

Sarah set up a JustGiving page here where donations are still coming in.

Charlotte Turner from Le Pompadour Barber Club donated her time free of charge for today's fundraising event.

"It's a lovely cause to work for. I was told to section it off into different plaits which I did. We're so pleased with the results."
