A former builder's yard in Middlewich is to be bulldozed and replaced with a two-storey apartment block.

Cheshire East planners have granted outline permission for the property at 2 Lewin Street to be demolished and four one-bed apartments to be built on the site.

The planning officer's report states: "The site itself consists of two-storey brick-built buildings and a timber-clad first floor element.

"The site is gated at the access, and timber hoardings are currently erected at the eastern boundary with the public highway.

"Surrounding development is mixed, with Middlewich Library neighbouring the site to the south and the terraced development along Hightown within the conservation area to the north."

It says the removal of this building yard use in favour of residential would not contravene local plan policies on town centres.

"The application site is a brownfield site and in a state of disrepair.

"Its redevelopment to residential would be acceptable in principle, subject to the satisfactory taking into account of all other relevant material considerations such as its impact on the setting of the nearby conservation areas and matters at reserve matters stage such as access, layout, scale and landscaping."

A reserved matters application will be submitted at a later date.

The approval was granted with conditions by planning officers under delegated authority.
