A new school in Sandbach for young people who have experienced trauma is offically opening in September.

The Lodge AP (Alternative Provision) based at Sandbach House is a trauma-informed alternative provision school supporting students who would thrive in a more personalised environment.

Based in an old sixth form centre in Crewe Road, The Lodge AP will offer students the chance to take qualifications and help them to build confidence and move forward with their lives.

The school will also be offering work placements providing real-world experience, life skills and confidence in their areas of interest.

The Lodge will have 32 places attracting students from West Cheshire, Crewe, Congleton, Macclesfield, Holmes Chapel and Winsford.

And it is reaching out to local companies who either want to donate equipment to for example the science department or offer work placements to help students progress in their careers.

The Lodge will support children aged between 13 and 18 with medical needs and "severe mental health challenges".

A spokesperson said: "We recognise that traditional setting may not meet these students' needs. We focus on an holistic approach that fosters emotional well-being, resilience and personal growth.

"Research shows that across the UK, 28 per cent of 12 - 18-year-olds have not attended school because they have felt unable to cope.

"Approximately 300,000 children are missing from education in the UK."

The Lodge AP's Ofsted pre-registraton inspection , which can be found here, states that: "The proposed school has placed appropriate importance on the teaching of reading, writing, speaking and listening and mathematics.

"Pupils will also study a range of other subjects that will provide them with experiences in scientific, technological, human and social, physical and aesthetic and creative education."
