Edwin Foden's house in Hill Street, Elworth is to be remembered.

A plaque in memory of the founder of Sandbach's most famous employer is to be placed outside his former home in the town.

The Foden Society, set up in memory of the brand, applied for permission to Sandbach Town Council.

At a recent meeting of the full council, councillors gave the thumbs up to the idea - providing the owner of 22 Hill Street in Elworth agreed.

The Foden Society has now had approval from the property's owner and the society will now arrange for a blue plaque to be made in Edwin Foden's memory.

Edwin Foden, who married Sophia Scragg from Warmingham in 1862, moved to 22 Hill Street next door to the then boss of the Elworth Foundry.

Now a plaque in his memory is to be put on the front of the house which forms part of Foden tours when they take place.

Foden Society chairman, Nathan Shore said: "It's an important part in history and points to where it all began.

"We felt it was right to honour this man and we'll be getting a cast iron plaque made to put up."

The Foden's Society, which is 30 years old this year and has members from all over the world, recently held a special event at Elworth Cricket Club.

In November, they will be holding their annual general meeting and tours of streets and places linked to the former Foden factory will take place.
