By Deborah Bowyer 9th Feb 2026
Sports fans will be watching Sandbach's Mia Brookes today (Monday) as she competes for a gold medal in the big air final in Italy tonight.
The 19-year-old, who is from Sandbach and went to Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College, became Britain's youngest snowboarding world champion aged just 16 in 2023.
Now she's hoping to achieve a gold medal in today's event at 6.30 pm. Several messages have appeared on Social Media wishing the Sandbach teenager best wishes for tonight.
Elworth Hall Primary School wished her all the best in her Winter Olympic campaign while Elworth district councillor, Nicola Cook, said "Fly high and safe Mia. Good luck tonight."
Mia, who learnt to snowboard at Kidsgrove Ski Centre when she was small, has been honoured by Sandbach's Yarn and Yarn group with a opstbox topper in her name.

Let's hope luck is on Mia's side as she competes for first place in today's event here
