The area outside Cheshire East Council's Westfield's premises looks like it's getting a makeover - just hours after Nub News ran a story saying how readers had complained about its unkempt state.
Yesterday (Tuesday) a workman was seen trimming hedging to the Middlewich Road building and today (Wednesday) workmen were back there, trimming the hedging further down the road outside the building.
When quizzed by Sandbach Nub News a workman said they would be there "all week" saying he had received a request to "go to Westfields".
A number of readers had contacted Nub News about the state of the area in front of Cheshire East Council's headquarters as we revealed in our story yesterday here
In December 2023, it was confirmed that Cheshire East Council would be leaving their Sandbach HQ, called Westfields, after 15 years.
Eight months on, the Council is still there, but some members of the public think the outdoor areas of the site has gone into disrepair.
Nub News readers say they are 'dismayed' at the number of weeds poking through the pavement and the overgrown state of the fountain in front of the building.
One said she 'could not believe the state of the grounds around the building' as she was driving past.
"I was shocked at the disgraceful state of the grounds around the building," said the reader who did not want to be named.
"Weeds, ivy infestation and the old fountain is a mess," added the anonymous reader.
"I know Cheshire East plan to sell it off but surely they have a responsibility to maintain it for now? It sends such a poor message out about our town."
Cheshire East's corporate policy committee took the decision to close Westfields in November last year after saying with many staff working from home, no longer needs so much office space as we revealed here
Nub News has contact Cheshire East Council for a statement about the work yesterday and today.
A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council told Nub News previously: "The site is currently still open and used as council offices."
"Staff will be moving out over the coming months.
"There is no official closing date for the building as yet."
It is not yet known what the purpose will be for the site once it closes.
Staff who work here will be moved to Macclesfield, or predominately Crewe, as part of the move.
