Armed police join search for man acting suspiciously with blow torch and hammer

Armed police helped search part of Elworth today (Tuesday) after a man was seen acting suspiously with a blow torch and a hammer.

Residents in the George Street area said around six or seven police cars blocked off the road earlier.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "At 9.31am on 11 March police were called to George Street in Elworth following a report of suspicious activity.

"A man was seen acting suspiciously with a blow torch and a hammer.

"Officers, assisted by armed police ,attended and made a search of the area.

"They located a 23-year-old man and arrested him on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon."

No further details of the incident have been released by police.
