Pupils at a Sandbach school are seeing the fruits of their labour during Dementia Action Week with a badge they have designed and made going public to the town.

Youngsters at Sandbach School in Crewe Road were tasked with coming up with design for Dementia Friendly Sandbach (DFS).

The winning design was chosen and was then used on a badge made by talented pupils at the school.

And tomorrow (Wednesday) the group will launch the badge at their stall in Sandbach's indoor market and donations will then help fund DFS activities to help those with dementia.

DFS has a stall in the indoor market until Saturday as part of Dementia Action Week which runs until Sunday (May 22nd) and has a theme this year of "diagnosis".

DFS steering group members visited Sandbach School in Crewe Road earlier this year to see the impressive badge in production.

DFS chair, Dave Whitworth, thanks students for their efforts with (from left) DFS seering group member Neil McKellarm Linda McKellar and Wendy Whitworth.

DFS chair, Dave Whitworth, said: "The teamwork involved is really impressive as it is

quite a fiddly task.

"We're really grateful to all the students and staff who have made this happen so quickly.

It was also nice to meet one of the boys who had become a Dementia Friend in 2019.

Steering group member, Neil McKellar, said: "Having dementia, Linda my wife and carer and I are members of DFS.

"Together with like-minded people, we are trying to make Sandbach a dementia friendly town.

"So I had an idea to have a badge made with our logo, to spread the word to Sandbach residents and friends.

"We would like to thank staff and pupils of 7C in the production and great design of the badges."

Sandbach School's deputy head, Stuart Dodds said: "Sandbach School is delighted to be supporting Dementia Friendly Sandbach.

"The students were so enthusiastic in producing the badges.  We look forward to helping DFS in other ways in the future."
