Cancer patients at a day hospice near Sandbach are able to enjoy the delights of a beautiful garden – thanks to staff from Barclays Bank.

Twice a year, staff from the bank's Radbroke Hall, Knutsford volunteer for a day at Winterley Grange at Wheelock Heath Business Court in Winterley.

The team helps to tidy the gardens in Spring and Autumn and carry out tasks like painting fences, power washing the decking, general garden maintenance and re-barking flower beds.

And recently, Barclays Bank staff painted garden furniture and did other jobs at the day hospice whose care includes a complementary therapies clinic, a counselling team, social work team and a Lymphoedema clinic.

Adelle Gillett, Volunteer Support Co-ordinator at St Luke's Hospice, said: "We are so grateful for the ongoing support of Barclays Bank at Radbroke Hall who kindly allow a group of staff to volunteer for a day at our Winterley Grange site twice a year.

"The team are fantastic and help with general garden maintenance each Spring and Autumn. They always get on with whatever task they are given with a smile and we really value their contribution.

"Volunteers are the lifeblood of St Luke's and we simply couldn't do what we do without their dedication and generosity. There are so many different volunteering roles on offer at St Luke's – from working in our shops to driving patients to and from Day Hospice. "

One of the staff from Barclays said: "Volunteering at Winterley Grange not only allows work colleagues to support a great, local and vital charity but it is also a great opportunity for us to give back to the community

"The fact that Barclays not only supports us in this endeavour but actively encourages it is warmly received and makes us all feel incredibly proud to work for the company.

"A big thank you to you for all the work you all do and if we can be a small help in anyway please just let us know and will try our best to support."

Winterley Grange is one of two day hospices run by St Luke's – the other is at St Luke's in Winsford. Together they provide a service for 150 people each week.

St Luke's is a charity funded by voluntary contributions. They have to raise £8,152 each day to enable the Hospice to provide free care and support to local people.
