Dozens of people visited plots and sampled local produce at the annual open day of Sandbach Allotment Society.

Around 45 plots were on display at the idyllic venue at Yeowood Farm in Ettiley Heath as well as cakes, coffee and tea in the £5 donation which went to St Luke's Hospice.

Chairman Ian Spreadbury, whose parents always enjoyed allotments, said there had been a good tunout.

"There's just something wonderful about owning an allotment. I sort of fell in love with it. You can come down here and totally forget about everything," he said.

"We're a friendly bunch and we share tips with each other and spare seeds if there are any. It's a great thing to get involved in."
