Jordan Gatley, 24, a former pupil of Sandbach School, was confirmed as a casualty in the on-going war by his family.

Cllr Flavell and Cllr Corcoran both signed the book today at Sandbach Town Hall.

Cllr Flavell said: "To lose a son is the worst imaginable thing for a mum.

"My thoughts and condolences are with Jordan's family and friends.

Cllr Corcoran said he offered his condolences to Jordan's family and friends.

He added: "We need to continue to remember those who have lost their lives and those who are going the extra mile to support Ukraine."

The book is available for anyone to sign in the foyer of Sandbach Town Hall during opening hours of 9 am – 4 pm Monday.

Meanwhile former school friend and work colleague, Chris Cooper, who worked with Jordan for a while at McDonald's in Sandbach, has said: "I went school with Jordan and then started working in a fast food restaurant with him for a year or two until he got into the Army.

"At school he was caring person and always cheered people up if they were low or sad. We used to go out on the weekends as a big work group.

"I would like to send my condolences to his family. He will always be remembered as a hero."
