Bowled over! Cricket club is crowned South Cheshire CAMRA's club of the year

A Sandbach cricket club has been made South Cheshire CAMRA's Club of the Year for 2024 and a local brewery has also received an award. 

South Cheshire Campaign for Real Ale awarded Elworth Cricket Club, whose clubhouse recently underwent a major refurbishment, the title at a presentation last night (Monday). 

And microbrewery, Merlin Brewing Company based at Spring Bank Farm, Congleton Road, Arclid, Sandbach, received a silver award for the North West Regional Champion Beer of Britain Competition 2024, 

Chairman of South Cheshire CAMRA, Derek Davey, presented both awards at Elworth Cricket Club in London Road. 

Vice chairman of Elworth Cricket Club, Andy Duffield, said he was delighted to receive the award following the refurbishment. 

"This is brilliant news and recognition of what we wanted to happen. It's nice to be recognised for a good set of beer," he said. 

Merlin Brewing Company is run by husband and wife, David and Sue Peart.

Receiving the silver award, David said: "There's been a lot of change in the industry, and we're delighted to receive this award. 

"CAMRA still play a big role and we thank everyone for their support."
