Sandbach Town Council's clerk, Ceri Lloyd, is showing her creative side – by helping to spearhead a new group aimed at decorating the town.

The town council launched the weekly 'Yarn and Yarn' group today (Monday) - aimed at producing post box toppers and other knitted and crocheted items.

It's hoped Sandbach will follow in the footsteps of nearby Holmes Chapel, Rode Heath and Alsager, who all have crocheted displays.

And Ceri says the new group won't just do projects for the town centre - it will also cover ideas for other town wards.

Ceri said: "We had an excellent turnout to the first group today who came up with so many good ideas, including a trail around the park.

"The group is aimed at beginners and the more experienced who want to help us to produce displays.

"It's a great idea and helps with so many things, including bringing people together and combatting loneliness."

Yarn and Yarn hopes to link up with schools and local businesses to help create and design the display items.

"We've come up with some great ideas and plan to use them to help brighten up the town," said Ceri.

"We'll mirror the programme of events in the town. There's so much we can do with this project."

The group takes place from 11 am until 1 pm in the town hall's Chamber Room and is free.

All abilities are welcome and tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. Further information available by emailing [email protected]
