Players at Sandbach Rugby Club have got a new ally on their side - ex-professional rugby player, Will Cargill, who has held his first coaching session at the club which launched him on the road to stardom.
Former first team player, Will, affectionately known as `Cargs' who had been playing professional rugby for the Cornish Pirates for the past six years, is back at the Bradwall Road club as Senior Skills and Kicking coach.
Sandbach RUFC's 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams enjoyed an informal training session with Will (31), who will be coaching at the club every Tuesday and Thursday evenings from now on.
Sandbach Nub News caught up with him at an informal training session when plans for the forthcoming season were unveiled to players after they were put through their paces by Will who is delighted to be back at the club.
He said: "It feels special being back where I started playing rugby and to be with my friends who I grew up with. I'm excited to get started. To coach the club where I first started playing is going to be rewarding."
Will's role will also see him involved in coaching the next generation of players at the club, namely their U16, 17 & 18's age groups, with the emphasis on transition and long-term player development.
The talented fly half, who amassed nearly 600 points in 117 appearances for Champion stalwarts, the Pirates, has an MSc in Sports Coaching, 'Cargs' as he is affectionately known, is also working with Sale Sharks.
And it's not just the club's players who will be having a taste of Will's skills – spectators will too. For Will has registered as a player with The 'Bach as a player and will back in the green and red jersey in the next few months.
