Cheers! Two Sandbach pubs to take part in real ale trail to celebrate 200 years of rail travel

Sandbach railway station and two pubs close by are to be an integral part of an initiative to be launched this weekend to mark 200 years of railway travel.
The Fox and The Midland Inn, both only a few metres walk from the station have been included in a Real Ale Trail from Crewe to Manchester.

The project encourages people from this part of Cheshire to use the train to explore the area and to stop off at local hostelries as they do so.
The first phase will embrace the stations at Crewe, Sandbach, Holmes Chapel, Goostrey, Chelford, Alderley Edge, Wilmslow, Styal and Handforth.
Travellers taking part will download participation sheets and, over any period of time, will visit designated pubs along the line whose staff will record the visit by means of stickers to be attached to the sheet.

Participants are encouraged to enjoy the surroundings and historical places of interest in each location (although regrettably Sandbach's many ancient monuments are a bus ride or substantial walk from the station).
When at least 15 of the 21 pubs taking part in the project have been visited and recorded the travellers will be rewarded with a baseball cap featuring the specially designed logo which features the Holmes Chapel viaduct and Jodrell Bank together with the renowned Cheshire Cat and glasses of real ale.

The Real Ale Trail has been organised by members of the volunteer-led Crewe to Manchester Community Rail Partnership which includes the Friends of Sandbach Station (FOSS).
Anybody wishing to take part in the trail should download a participation card here any time after its official launch on Saturday (27 September) – the date of the 200-year anniversary of rail travel in the UK.
This will be celebrated at Sandbach station with a performance by members of Sandbach's Foden Brass Band, with pop-up café, at 10.30 to which anyone is welcome.
See you there!
