A much-loved green space and walk in Sandbach has a new tree – thanks to the late Queen's Green Canopy scheme.

A huge tree planting scheme has taken place nationwide as part of the late Queen's Platinum jubilee celebration.

Congleton MP, whose constituency includes Sandbach, has planted a tree at the start of the Dingle Wood path in Sandbach.

This was organised by Sandbach Woodland and Wildlife Group and do work throughout the town on the green pathways.

Committee members held a small ceremony with Fiona Bruce MP for the planting of the cherry tree.

Fiona Bruce MP said: "I am delighted to be planting this tree which is in a wonderful spot and will help lift spirits in the Spring when it flowers.

"Trees are an important part of our well-being and this well placed so it can be seen by those going into Dingle Wood and crossing the bridge."

A spokesperson for Sandbach Woodland and Wildlife Group said: "Well done to Chris Cliff for making this project happen with the support of the committee and thank you to Fiona Bruce for coming and planting it for us on a very cold December morning."

The Queen's Green Canopy is a national initiative which encourages organisations, communities, and individuals to "Plant a Tree for the Jubilee" to mark the late Majesty's Platinum Jubilee
