A new service offering walk-in PCR tests for Covid-19 has been hailed a success after a pilot week in Sandbach and is to be rolled out across the borough.

Cheshire East Council's Swab Squad set up camp in the council's car park at its Westfields headquarters.

A mobile unit and pop-up facilities were set up for the PCR tests which saw 54 people sign up for them on the first day, Monday.

Around 25 people a day have been visiting the pop-up test centre in Middlewich Road, displaying either symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive.

Spokesperson, Hannah Baker-Ilsley said the plan is now to take the service to local outbreaks and hotspots where there are spikes in cases.

"We have had a really good reaction. The aim is for us to be as reactive as possible."
