Shoppers heading to the Co-op's Middlewich Road store in Sandbach will now be able to recycle soft plastics – thanks to a new unit which has just been installed.

The Co-op has launched soft plastic units in 1,500 of its stores and the Middlewich Road one is one of the sites.

Soft plastics are lightweight plastics such as plastic film lids on yoghurt pots, soft fruit punnets, plastic crisp packets, pasta bags and chocolate or biscuit wrappers.

The Co-op is urging customers to 'Clean it, scrunch it and Co-op it' and join this latest recycling initiative.

They say it doesn't matter where shoppers bought the soft plastics from – just pop their soft plastics into the units to do their bit for the environment.

Co-op Member Pioneer for Sandbach Arnie Laing went along to see the new slim-line unit.

He said: "It's easy to use and will be a great addition to recycling in the town."

Member Pioneers can be colleagues or members of the community. They create local action plans that mean the Co-op can provide support at a local level.

They work very closely with the Local Community Fund recipients which are local causes that are supported by the local Co-op Members. They can be charities, local community groups or food banks.
