The High Sheriff of Cheshire has urged residents across the county to get their vaccine jab when offered.

John Wilbraham, CEO at East Cheshire NHS Trust, the organisation which operates the borough's mass vaccination centre at Alderley Park, received a High Sheriff's Award from Robert Mee DL on behalf of everyone involved in the local Covid-19 Vaccination Programme.

On a visit to the centre, Mr Mee spoke of his admiration for the tireless work of health care staff and volunteers – recognising their valuable contribution in enhancing the lives of the local community.

He said: "The combination of professionalism, logistics and team work which has all come together to ensure the smooth running of this mass vaccination centre in such a short period of time is extremely special.

"From the dedicated team of vaccinators who are delivering a staggering 900 vaccines per day, to the unbelievable support of the volunteers come rain, hail or shine, the goodwill of these people is vital and I wanted to acknowledge this and thank you all for everything you are doing.

"I'm thrilled, delighted and humbled to present this award to the team on behalf of the residents of Cheshire to express our appreciation and gratitude. I would also like to urge all eligible people who have not yet received their vaccine to book their appointment as soon as possible."

Since the centre opened on 18 February, staff and volunteers at Alderley Park have successfully vaccinated over 35,000 local residents.

Anyone who is eligible - but yet to take up a Covid-19 vaccination - can arrange their appointments on the NHS website or by calling 119.

CEO John Wilbraham said, "On behalf of the team I would like to thank The High Sheriff for his kind words and gesture of appreciation which acknowledges the hard work of everyone involved in the delivery of this vaccination programme.

"The staff greatly appreciated the recognition for the work they are doing and are honoured to receive this special award."
