Demolition work can move ahead of the former E.ON power station in Moston.

Cheshire East Council planners have ruled that prior approval of the demolition is not required, meaning the work can press on.

It's expected to take 16 weeks to complete the five-stage process.

Walsingham Planning, writing in a supporting statement to the council on behalf of applicant Bluefield Sandbach Ltd, said: "The power station was constructed in 1999 and has ceased operation. Requirements under Condition 47 of the original consent, and the commercial need for the land for redevelopment purposes means all structures associated with the power station need to be demolished imminently.

"The site will be restored to ground level with the existing concrete slabs remaining in situ on site. All other materials will be separated and removed from the site.

"Bluefield Sandbach Ltd intend to submit a planning application in the near future for a commercial energy storage system on the site."

Work will be restricted from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 2pm on Saturdays, with no progress being made on Sundays or Bank Holidays.

The demolition will include the dismantling of a gas turbine, a waste heat recovery boiler, a stream turbine and ancillary plant buildings, offices, tanks, and sheds.
