Market traders in Sandbach are celebrating after learning they continue trading inside the Market Hall while the town mourns the Queen's death.

Sandbach Town Council closed the inside market hall temporarily today (Friday) while advice was taken following the Monarch's passing.

Traders had received an email advising them of the move but they have now been assured the market hall will re-open tomorrow (Saturday).

And that's good news for market stall holders, Jenny Grist of Rainbow Cheesecakes and Angela Hingston, of Angie's Vintage Emporium.

Both had arranged to have their official opening with Sandbach Mayor, Councillor Kathryn Flavell, tomorrow morning which has been postponed.

"It's such a relief. We had been looking forward to tomorrow so much," said Jenny, who like other traders, had bought extra stock for Sandbach Town Festival.

But their good news is tinged with sadness for the town council has unfortunately had to postpone tomorrow's planned Sandbach Town Festival although Sandbach Makers Market is going ahead.

Councillor David Poole, one of the councillors in Town ward, met with market traders earlier today to talk about the issue and find a way forward.

Sandbach Town Council's Chief Officer, Ceri Lloyd, said the Town Council had been placed in a difficult position and needed clarification.

"We are in unchartered territory. In the absence of full guidance, we took the decision to close the indoor section today," she said.

"We have tried to find a balance to show the community is paying its respects. We're very sorry that market traders had a difficult day today."

Sandbach Town Council took advice from the Cheshire Association of Local Councils (ChALC) to ensure they are working within guidelines.
