And everything in the garden is rosy at The Meadows which has vegetable patches where children can watch seeds grow into plants and see the vegetable used in the nutritious daily menu.

The nursery is set in a Victorian farmhouse with with large outdoor spaces, divided into gardens for different age ranges.

It held an open day yesterday (Saturday) for children, parents and carers to come and see for themselves the new-look facilities.

And it also took the opportunity to raise funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young, CRY, a charity which helps highlight undiagnosed heart conditions in young people.

Amanda Stubbs, manager of The Meadows said: "The nursery has been redecorated throughout and furnished using authentic items providing a home-from-home atmosphere.

"We're proud of the changes and the high standard we deliver at the nursery, helping children to progress and offer so many experiences to help them to develop to their full potential.

"We have vegetable patches which the children enjoy helping to plant and watch the vegetables grow. We then use the vegetables in our kitchen and talk about them with children as they are eating."

As well as the vegetable patches, there's also a sensory garden with plants designed to stimulate a child's senses.

The Meadows employs 11 member of staff. Diane Woodcock, administrator, whose own two children Lucy and Holly attended the nursery, has helped spearhead the changes.

"We have fantastic outdoor facilities and spaces and a wonderful caring environment. Each garden area offers something different and the indoor spaces are equally as fantastic."
