An ex-paratrooper from Wheelock is sleeping out under the arches at Sandbach Town Hall tomorrow night (Saturday) to raise money for homeless veterans.

Neal Bowyer served 26 years in the Parachute Regiment from 1985 until 2011, serving on operations in Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan and Macedonia.

He left the army to come back to Sandbach when he was 42 when his parents became ill but has remained in close contact with former colleagues.

Now he is sleeping rough in Sandbach town centre for the Great Tommy Sleep Out for the Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI).

Neal, who lives in Barnton Way, Wheelock said: "On Saturday 15th of March 2025, I'm swapping my bed for a sleeping bag to raise vital funds and awareness for veterans who are experiencing homelessness in the UK right now.

"With every penny raised, Royal British Legion Industries can provide safe, warm housing and ensure everyone has a fair opportunity to gain employment, regardless of health conditions or disability.

"Please help me to raise much-needed funds for this incredible cause. Not enough is done in this country for veterans in this situation."

Neal has set up a fundraising page for his event which has raised £1,129 of the £1,500 and donations are continu9ing to come in. To make a donation follow this link here
