Firefighters in Sandbach have rescued a three-year-old horse that had been stuck in a ditch.

The rescue operation took place yesterday (23 May) morning along Plant Lane with crews from four fire stations coming to assist.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Fire and Rescue said: "Crews attended the scene and on arrival they found a horse which has fallen down a ditch and was lay on its side in approximately eight inches of water.

"Firefighters used specialist rescue equipment to rescue the horse from the ditch and were detained at the incident for around two hours."

A social media post by Sandbach Fire Station said the horse was "soon feeding and walking around" following the rescue.
