Police issue warning on e-scooter use on Sandbach's streets

By James Kelly 21st May 2021

Police in Sandbach have warned people not to illegally ride electric scooters on pub or risk being landed with a fine.

Officers said that while e-scooter trials are taking place in other towns, such as Chester, this does not apply to Sandbach.

In a Facebook post, officers said: "Despite previous posts we are still seeing e-scooters in and around Sandbach.

"Use of e-scooters or other powered transporters such as segways, hoverboards, etc are illegal unless used on private land with the landowner's permission.

Despite the legal status, sales of e-scooters have boomed in the UK with Halfords reporting a 184 per cent increase in the year on year to November 2020.

Sandbach Police added: "Illegal use of e-scooters can lead to a fine, penalty points on your licence and the e-scooter could be seized."
