Firefighters were called to a hayfire in Glastonbury Drive Middlewich yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

One fire engine from Middlewich went to the blaze at 4.25 pm.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire crews were called to a field where three bales of hay were on fire.

"It is believed that they had started to self-combust and were removed from a barn by the farmer.

"Firefighters used tools to spread the hay and dampen it down using a hose reel jet. Crews checked the other hay bales with a thermal imaging camera."
