A fire crew were called to put out a car fire this afternoon on Congleton Road in Sandbach.

The fire service was made aware of the incident around 4:20pm and dispatched one fire engine from Sandbach fire station.

A spokesperson for the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "On arrival, the crew found a saloon car well alight on the roadway. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire with a hose reel jet."

The vehicle was damped down and made safe with the crew at the scene for around 30 minutes.

It has not been revealed how the fire was started.
