Year 7 students at Sandbach School have been told they must self-isolate following a positive Covid-19 case among the cohort.

Parents and carers were informed over the weekend that their children in the year group should not come into the school and would instead be taught remotely.

In a letter to parents, Sarah Burns, the headteacher, wrote: "These are worrying times and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that we support and protect our students however we can."

She confirmed that the student who tested positive and their family are "doing well, with only mild symptoms evident so far".

Three members of staff in the "Year 7 bubble" are also receiving Covid-19 tests today after developing symptoms of the virus.

Ms Burns added: "After consultation with Public Health England and Cheshire East we are instructing Year 7 to continue with remote learning and self-isolation for the rest of the week."

Students have been instructed they must self-isolate until Thursday 29th October, in line with national guidelines.

"If your child is well at the end of the 14 day period of self-isolation, then they can return to usual activities including attending school on Tuesday 3 November," the letter continued.

Other members of the family can continue as normal as long as the student does not develop Covid-19 symptoms.
