Two engines were still there the following morning, only leaving at 7.30 am after using a thermal imaging camera to check for 'hotspots'.

A Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The fire involved bales of hay.

"The fire had been split into sectors to enable crews to deal with the incident and surround the fire.

"Firefighters used two main jets, three breathing apparatus and a hose reel to extinguish and damp down the fire.

"Two engines remained at the scene later that evening and crews continued to damp down."
