Motorists are facing 'severe' delays after a lorry overturned on the motorway.

Emergency services and traffic officers are currently at the scene of a crash on the M6 between J16 for Crewe and J17 for Sandbach.

It is understood a lorry has overturned.

As such, two lanes of the northbound carriageway have been closed, National Highways has confirmed.

This has resulted in five miles of congestion on approach, with delays of at least 45 minutes.

Recovery is en route.

Cheshire Police have been contacted for further information.
