Young female football players in Sandbach are set to be as warm as toast this winter when training - thanks to a firm's kind-hearted donation.

Viridor Runcorn ERF, a recycling, resource and waste management company, has given Sandbach United's Under 11s girls football team £750.

And the team is going to spend the money on hats, jackets and training tops for the players, who train on the club's pitches in Hind Heath Road.

Mike Edwards, an assistant coach of the team and a shift technician at Runcorn ERF, nominated his daughter's football team to receive some money. His daughter, Millie, 10, is a member of the team.

Viridor were only too delighted to step in and make a donation to the team .

Darren Bolton, plant manager, Viridor Runcorn Energy from Waste facility said: "Viridor Runcorn ERF is delighted to be making a donation to Sandbach United Under 11s girls football team following the site being recognised at the Viridor annual awards for record health and safety performance.

"We are committed to our neighbours and developing opportunities for the communities in which we operate, together achieving our shared purpose of building a world where nothing goes to waste.

Beth Whittaker, business support co-ordinator, Viridor Runcorn Energy from Waste facility, presented the cheque to the team.

"The team at Runcorn ERF are thrilled to have been recognised for our outstanding health and safety performance by winning the Viridor HomeSafe award.

"Our priority is to ensure that everyone goes home safe, each and every day.

"We have chosen to donate our award money to local charities, nominated and voted by our members of staff.

"Mike Edward, a shift technician at Runcorn ERF, kindly nominated his daughter's football team. We are delighted to see £750 of the money going to community sports team."

Liz Clark, Sandbach United's Diversity and Inclusion Officer, said the club was delighted to receive the money.

"This is an amazing donation and the girls and the team are very grateful for it. It's so important that Sandbach United works with companies in the community and we're so pleased to have been recognised by Viridor. "
