A former fish and chip shop in Wheelock is to be converted into an office for a taxi company.

Cheshire East's southern planning committee gave the go-ahead on Wednesday for the change of use of the former Family Kebab and Chippy on Crewe Road .

The application had been 'called-in' by ward councillor Laura Crane (Lab) to the committee because she had feared it would involve the business operating at unsocial hours and impact on neighbours.

Applicant Mohammed Khan, who runs Congleton-based A Star Taxis, assured councillors the premises would be used as an office only – no taxis would be going there and no customers would be visiting.

Cllr Crane said:" If we are assured that this is purely for a couple of members of staff who, hopefully will be local and walking there, then I can feel a lot more comfortable approving this and will propose approval."

This was seconded by Nantwich councillor Anna Burton and the application was unanimously approved.
