Ex-England and Saracens forward, George Kruis, joins local men's and women's rugby players in Sandbach on Friday (24 July) to set a world record.

There will be a Guinness World Record attempt for the longest games of men's and women's Rugby Sevens at Sandbach RUFC in Bradwall Road to raise money for rugby mental health charity, LooseHeadz.

The current men's record stands at 24hrs 30mins, while the women's record has never been attempted.

The record attempts will start at midday on Friday, with the new records hopefully established on Saturday mid-afternoon.

A spokesperson said: "The goal is to play for longer than the current Guinness World Record of 24 hours and 30 minutes, set in 2017.

"Each game will feature two teams of up to 12 players, using rolling substitutions to keep the action going throughout the entire attempt. Every match will follow official 7s rugby laws, ensuring the challenge remains a legitimate competitive contest, even as fatigue inevitably sets in.

"We are proud to have the support of George Kruis, former England international and British & Irish Lion and Ollie Philips, ex England Rugby Sevens Captain and World Sevens Player of the Year joining our men's teams.

"Their involvement highlights how important this cause is across all levels of the game. This is just the beginning – we'll be announcing more big names supporting our challenge in the coming weeks."
