It's open – after months of building work and speculation.

The historic Swan and Chequers pub in Sandbach town opened its doors at 1 pm today (Tuesday), much to the delight of local townsfolk.

Customers got a chance to finally try out the new-look Robinsons pub in Hightown which has had a complete makeover.

And they got to see the giant nod to Winston Churchill at the back, giving a nod to the pub's famous links to Parliament.

The famous Prime Minister visited Sandbach and spoke to residents during his time in office.

New landlord, Matthew Hurst who has taken over the pub with wife Jaki, said trade had been brisk.

"Everyone seems to be happy and enjoying the pub's new-look, commenting how different it now looks."

The pub's owners, Robinsons Brewery, revealed to Sandbach Nub News in May here how a new catering kitchen was being installed and there would be a full refurbishment of trading areas.

"Design plans are to create a town centre bar that appeals to all demographics," they said.

"The total venue is going to have a capacity of 180 with areas for live entertainment."
