Honorary employee at Roadchef's Sandbach services clocks up 35 years' service

An honorary employee at Roadchef's Sandbach Motorway Services has received a long service award for 35 years of commitment to the company.

Sharon Thomas began her career at Roadchef the same week the Berlin Wall fell in Germany and Ride on Time by Black Box was number one on the charts. 

Mark Fox, Chief Executive Officer for Roadchef, presented Sharon, based at Roadchef's Sandbach motorway service area (MSA) with a long service award to commemorate her significant milestone.

Sharon began her career at Roadchef on the 6th of October 1989 at 16. The same week, the Berlin Wall fell in Germany and Ride on Time by Black Box was number one on the charts. 

On weekends, Sharon worked on table service and in the kitchen as a pot wash at the then-known Orchards Restaurant.

Throughout her tenure, Sharon has remained a steadfast presence at Sandbach. Sharon moved to Cafe Continental before taking maternity leave for the birth of her first child, returning to make sandwiches and cakes before taking time off for her second child in 1995. 

In 1998, Sharon moved into Wimpy before being promoted to supervisor. In 2008, Sharon moved to Costa Coffee as an Assistant Manager and was promoted to Costa Unit Manager at Stafford in 2010.

Sharon became Operations Manager at Roadchef's Stafford M6 Southbound in 2015 before returning to Sandbach in 2022 as Costa Unit Manager to be closer to home.

She said: "It has been an incredible journey working at Roadchef for the past 35 years and I am thrilled to receive the long service award.

"The support from my colleagues and the company has been wonderful. I look forward to many more years with the Roadchef family."

When Sharon isn't at work, she loves going on hikes and long walks with her dog Benson. Sharon has recently become a nanny for the first time to her six-week-old granddaughter Bonnie.

Mark Fox, CEO at Roadchef, said: "Sharon's dedication to providing excellent customer service over the past 35 years is truly inspiring.

"She is a highly valued member of the Roadchef family and everyone at Roadchef is immensely grateful for her contributions."
