Hot ashes placed in a garden bin in Sandbach are thought to have started a fire in the rear garden of a house in Sandbach on Boxing Day.

Two fire engines went to the blaze at 9.38 pm in Milton Way, Ettiley Heath which caused heat damage to the window of the house.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "The fire is believed to have been caused by hot ashes being placed on a bin, causing heat damage to an external window.

"The fire was out on arrival, however, firefighters used a hose reel jet to dampen down the affected area while checking for any signs of fire spread. A large fan was also used to clear light smoke from the property."
