J D Wetherspoon has confirmed its interest in returning to Crewe, six years after it closed down in the town.

The pub chain shuttered its Victoria Street premises, The Gaffers Row, in January 2018, making way for demolition of the Royal Arcade site.

Since then, Wetherspoons has not reopened in Crewe, despite having locations in the smaller Cheshire towns of Sandbach, Congleton, Northwich, and Winsford.

As of March 2024, Wetherspoons has over 800 locations across the UK and is considering making a comeback to Crewe.

The pub company is not looking at any South Cheshire sites "at present," but is remaining open to the possibility.

Wetherspoon spokesman, Eddie Gershon, told Nub News: "The company would certainly consider opening a pub in Crewe.

"At present we are not looking at any sites."
