Local heroes celebrated: Sandbach coach and Cranage community leader receive MBEs in recent King's birthday honours

A Sandbach football coach who has helped develop generations of young players at one of the world's biggest clubs has been awarded an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours.
Anthony Michael Whelan, a youth football coach at Manchester United, has been recognised for services to association football.
Mr Whelan, who lives in Sandbach, has dedicated much of his career to developing young footballers and helping them progress through the ranks at Manchester United's renowned academy system.
Meanwhile a Cranage resident who has spent more than two decades supporting young people and tackling violence in communities has also been awarded an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours.
Michael Phipps, Strategic Lead for Communities at the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit, has been recognised for his services to young people.
Mr Phipps, who lives in Cranage, near Sandbach, has dedicated more than 20 years to youth and community work, helping to develop programmes that support vulnerable young people and reduce the risk of violence, crime and exploitation.
