Local MP highlights the state of Cheshire's potholed roads in the House of Commons

Congleton MP, Sarah Russell, has highlighted the state of Cheshire's roads in the House of Commons.

The MP, whose constituency includes Sandbach, pointed out the state of the road surface on Cheshire's roads in an Adjournment Debate.

She talked about roads in Cheshire in general and highlighted one road in South Cheshire which has been the subject of recent complaints by a councillor.

She said: "It's incredibly important in our beautiful Cheshire towns that our roads are maintained in good condition.

"I'm thinking in particular there's a stretch of road in Alsager which is absolutely lovely and has a fantastic local cafe on it.

"It's a major part of the town centre and the degeneration of the road is making it look less attractive than otherwise it could.

"Do you agree with me that these are important points not just for the state of our roads but for the whole of the local economy?

The comments come after Alsager councillor, Rod Fletcher, wrote to Cheshire East Council's highways department as our sister site, Alsager Nub News revealed earlier this week here complaining about poorly sealed drains, dimples on the road surface and ridges in the road following recent work on a different stretch of the same road.

Cllr Fletcher said "There have been many complaints about the long-awaited resurfacing on Lawton Road

"There are issues and therefore it is important for Cheshire East to advise when the work will be inspected and what corrective measures will be required.

"I am disappointed that having lobbied for resurfacing improvements on Lawton Road for many years the public are unhappy with the end product."

Signs went up before the work took place near Lawton Road to say the road will be closed between 9 am and 3 pm from next Monday (July 7th) until Wednesday (July 9th).

The signs said "advance warning road closed here for carriageway surfacing, weather permitting".
