Local MP to challenge National Highways and press for a review of safety measures on M6 near Sandbach

Congleton MP, Sarah Russell, is going to press for a review of safety measures and challenge National Highways about the number of accidents on the M6 near Sandbach after concerns from a local resident.
Motorist, Victoria Catania, who lives in Sandbach wrote to Sarah Russell asking her to look at why so many accidents are happening at J16/J17/18/19 of the M6.
Her email followed a story in Sandbach Nub News here which revealed the M6 was top of a list for the 20 worst roads for speeding in Cheshire.

Ms Catania said in her email: "Sandbach is often plagued with delays caused by motorway hold ups but more importantly, it's becoming increasingly obvious that this stretch of motorway is dangerous causing a risk to locals lives who have to travel on this stretch of motorway on a regular basis.
"This concern feels further exacerbated by the transition to a smart motorway where there is mounting evidence of increased dangers.
"As our MP I request you to raise the issue with highways and other bodies to campaign for a move away from smart motorways, enhanced monitoring of speed limits / enhanced police enforcement as well as a review of speed limits on this stretch to improve safety standards."

Ms Catania received a speedy reply from Sarah Russell whose consistuency includes Sandbach, in which she said: "I understand and share your concerns about the delays and dangers along J16-19, especially for local residents who rely on it for daily travel.
"The safety of all road users must be a top priority, and I fully recognise the unease many people feel about the operation of smart motorways.
"As you rightly point out, recent evidence has highlighted the importance of constant monitoring, clear signage, and rapid response systems to ensure these roads are as safe as possible.
"I will raise your concerns with National Highways and press for a review of safety measures in place on this section of the M6, including the speed limit, signage, and enforcement protocols.
"I will also continue to follow developments regarding the Government's ongoing pause and review of new smart motorway projects.
"I will be in touch once I receive a response from National Highways but please do stay in touch and let me know if I can assist with anything else.
"Thank you again for bringing this important matter to my attention. Please rest assured I will continue to advocate for improvements and pass on the experiences of local residents to the relevant authorities."
